Dover Finance Panel Backs $1.725 Million Fuel Island, Tables Traffic Vote

DOVER -- March 24, 2026, Dover Finance Committee votes to recommend $1.725 million fuel island replacement at town meeting. The committee, meeting remotely on March 24, voted 6-0 to back the replacement of the DPW fuel island, 32 years old, uninsurable, and past warranty, after ruling out shared fueling arrangements with neighboring towns and commercial alternatives. A member identified as Woody acknowledged the discomfort of the price tag, saying the new facility "will be good for probably 25 years, which is hopefully 15 years beyond the point at which we're using petroleum-based products." The panel also approved four equipment replacements totaling roughly $490,000, including a $180,000 backhoe and a $145,000 DPW radio upgrade. A $150,000 town center traffic improvement article backed by a $1 million state grant was tabled after members said conceptual renderings have not been shown to residents and the Board of Selectmen has not weighed in on a design the committee called "so un-Dover" in its original four-pole, 12-signal-can form.
