Dover Warrant Committee Unanimously Backs $2.19 Million in Capital Spending

DOVER — March 18, 2026 — Dover's Warrant Committee approved $2.19 million in capital spending recommendations in a single evening but deferred action on two additional items with Town Meeting five weeks away. Meeting remotely on March 18, the six-member committee voted 6-0 on each of five articles, led by a $1.725 million replacement of the town's 32-year-old, uninsurable fuel island at the DPW facility — a project deferred from last year after a bylaw defect was discovered and subsequently corrected. The committee also cleared a $135,000 Ford F-450 dump truck with plow, a $180,000 John Deere backhoe, a $30,000 John Deere tractor with mower deck, and a $145,000 dual-band radio upgrade for DPW. Town official Dave noted the savings from bulk fuel purchasing alone would "pay for these new tanks in and of themselves" compared with commercial rates over 20 years. The committee tabled a $150,000 request for ornamental traffic poles at the Center Street intersection — tied to a roughly $1 million state grant — after members said the design remained in flux and the Board of Selectmen had not yet formally weighed in. A $200,000 Carroll Park water system tank replacement was also deferred after members could not confirm whether the system serves fire suppression or another function at Chickering School.
