Dover Health Board Sets Oct. 6 Well, Pool Hearing

Board of Health · Meeting of September 15, 2026

Dover Board of Health hears wildlife toll of rat poison, sets October hearing. The board unanimously reelected Kay Peterson as chair and voted 3-0 to schedule an October 6 public hearing on updated well and pool regulations, including a tightened PFAS testing standard. Wildlife rehabilitator Jane Newhouse of Newhouse Wildlife Rescue told the board four of five tested foxes with mange showed serious blood-clotting problems from rat poison, warning "it absolutely is an issue in our wildlife, in our predator species." Roughly 60 Massachusetts towns have banned the poison on municipal land, she said.

Member Stephen Kresko argued a proposed $500 pool-violation fine was "a rounding error for half the people in town," but the board kept the existing penalty. Public Health Nurse Gail reported a Dana-Farber mammography van screened 17 people last week, and a flu and COVID vaccine clinic is set for October 16.
