Dover Finance Committee Flags School Enrollment Drops, Budget Gaps Ahead of Key Meetings
Dover Finance Committee warns of contentious regional school budget meeting ahead of town warrant work.
DOVER -- February 4, 2026, Dover Finance Committee warns of contentious regional school budget meeting ahead of town warrant work. Meeting by Zoom on February 4, the committee previewed a joint session set for February 11 at the Dover-Sherborn Middle School library, where the Sherborn Advisory Committee is expected to push for reductions to the regional school budget amid a reported drop of roughly 120 high school students since 2019, a decline from a base of approximately 550 to 600 students that one member called "really substantial." The committee also reviewed a preliminary town budget showing the Conservation Commission seeking an additional $32,000 in consulting services, with a question unresolved over whether converting conservation agent Janet Bowser from consultant to full-time town employee would save money. Members voted 6-0 to approve previous minutes and discussed a new tracking form for the 27 warrant articles approved by the Board of Selectmen, down from last year, with no citizens petitions filed.
