Dover Opens Cooling Centers July 1–2 as Heat Wave and Drought Strain Town
With a significant drought already gripping town and a heat wave forecast for the opening days of July, Dover is activating cooling centers and reminding residents of outdoor watering limits heading into the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Dover officials announced that both the Dover Town House and the Caryl Community Center will serve as cooling centers on Tuesday, July 1, and Wednesday, July 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gym and program spaces at the Community Center will not be available until after 3 p.m., but common areas will be open throughout the day.
The town is also operating under a Level 2 Significant Drought declaration. Under current restrictions, nonessential outdoor watering is limited to hand-held hoses or watering cans only, and only between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. Sprinkler and irrigation use during daytime hours is not permitted under Level 2 rules.
Residents should also note that the Dover Transfer Station will be closed on Saturday, July 4. The station will be open its regular hours on Wednesday, July 1, and Sunday, July 5.
On a longer-horizon infrastructure note, the town's Department of Public Works has announced upcoming paving projects set to begin in July. Additional details are available on the town website.
