Dover Board of Health Advances Nicotine-Free Generation Draft Toward Fall Hearing

DOVER — May 12, 2025 — Dover's Board of Health voted 2-1 Monday to keep a nicotine-free generation tobacco regulation alive, advancing a draft to town counsel ahead of a public hearing planned for September. Chair K. Peterson and member John Quackenbush outvoted member Steve Kresco, who moved to drop the proposal entirely and said he had not found a single Dover resident in favor of it. Three outside speakers — including Alex Weatherall, owner of Sherborn Market, who reported his daily cigarette pack sales have fallen more than 20 packs per day since 2015 — urged the board to abandon the initiative, calling it "performative." The board also approved minutes and heard a public health update on CPR training for roughly 30 town employees in June and an ongoing project to map seven Dover AEDs onto the PulsePoint emergency app.
